| Summary | Reb Refoel Shlit"a spoke today regarding Hakoras Hatov. What if someone has done to us both good and evil - must we be Makir Tov? It would seem yes - look at what the Torah says about Mitzrayim...! Listen to a remarkable Ramban concerning Amon and Moiov. Rav Dessler zt"l speaks at length regarding the Middah of chessed and selfless giving. Hashem wants us to be "givers" and not "receivers", although sometimes we do have to take from others, so that THEY can be givers! We also see the concept that we have to give gratitude to inanimate objects, just like we see from Moishe Rabeinu (sand and water..). Other ideas followed from the Chovas Halevovois, the Orchois Chaim Lorosh and Reb Avigdor Miller zt"l. This was followed by words of the Radak in the name of Rav Saadiah Gaon who states that seeing Hashem is the "giving praise and understanding His ways". The shiur concluded with an awesome story involving Reb Yehoshua Leib Diskin zt"l who visited a lady who had an extremely unpleasant medical condition. She asked for a Brocha for long life and Reb Yehoshua Leib asked her "You are in that state - and you want a long life?!" The lady answered that she can only afford a carer once every 2 weeks, but at least then, every fortnight, for a few hours she should be able to say Asher Yotzar in a state of cleanliness!
